2026 - Year of the Spiral

The above Spider web photo was featured in a newsletter during The Year of Light. This month, during the Year of the Spiral, I feature it again. The photo below is included for a clearer view of the spiral of an orb web.

The spiral web has always been a source of beauty to me. Even when I was deathly afraid of spiders, I marveled at the intricate design and strength that this little creature could build in a short time. Now that I am aware that Spider is one of my Power Animals and no longer panic (mostly) when a spider is near, I am enthralled with how perfectly each web is woven.

A study of the orb web reveals that only some of the strands are sticky and trap insects for the spider's meal. Other strands are not sticky, allowing the spider to maneuver through the spiral without getting caught up in its own creation! The radiating support strands conduct vibrations from a stuck insect through the web that the spider will sense.

Some Native American Indian cultures believe Grandmother Spider wove the dream of the world into existence. Spider has many lessons for us. Jamie Sams, my favorite author, along with David Carson, writes in Medicine Cards, "The most important message from Spider is that you are an infinite being who will continue to weave the patterns of life and living throughout time. Do not fail to see the expansiveness of the eternal plan."

One of the contrary aspects of Spider is a reminder to notice if you are stagnant in your life. "Or," Spider asks, "are you actively creating your life? Is it time to 'get moving,' find Joy in inspiration, and expand yourself into a new phase of creative spinning!" (Sams & Carson)

Contemplate the beauty of the spiral in the natural world. In what ways are you weaving your spiral of new life into existence? Have you woven an aspect of your life that leaves you in a sticky situation? Are you open and sensing the subtle vibrations of Divine messages being sent to you for guidance? What are the ways the ancient spiral shape has helped you navigate life experiences?

Gathering of Light 2026

Thank you to each of you who participated in the Gathering of Light 2026 - a gathering of love and friendship of those bringing in the Light - at the Colibri Place in the Swan Valley from July 10-12. What a transformational experience during this most transformational time on Earth!

Besides laughter, bonding, and a dip in Holland Lake for some, there was morning Qigong, creating a Medicine Wheel, a Crystal Oracle Circle, Quantum Hypnosis Healing Technique sessions, Tuning Fork Sound Therapy sessions, Body Whisperer sessions, a Drum Circle, a Releasing Ceremony, and, in our new pavilion space, a Crystal Singing Bowl sound bath!
